Creating pathways for financial independence and confidence
When Women Rise, Communities Rise
Women in Uganda — particularly refugee women, young mothers, and those in rural communities — face systemic barriers to economic participation. Limited access to education, financial services, markets, and leadership opportunities keeps millions locked in cycles of poverty and dependence.
SHFA’s Women’s Empowerment & Economic Inclusion program is designed to change this. We equip women with the skills, resources, networks, and confidence they need to build sustainable livelihoods, lead in their communities, and shape their own futures.
We believe that when women have economic power, everything changes — families eat better, children stay in school, and communities grow stronger.
How we support women's empowerment
Vocational & Digital Skills Training
We offer hands-on training in tailoring, hairdressing, catering, crafts, and digital literacy. Our training is practical, market-relevant, and designed to help women earn immediately. We also run digital skills programs so women can access online markets, mobile banking, and business tools.
Business Start-Up & Growth Support
We support women to move from training to income through start-up kits, business mentorship, market linkages, and cooperative development. Women learn to plan, price, market, and manage sustainable businesses — whether individually or in groups.
Access to Financial Services
Many women have never had a bank account or accessed formal credit. We run Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), connect women to microfinance services, and provide financial literacy training so women can save, borrow, and invest on their own terms.
Women's Leadership & Advocacy
We create platforms for women to lead — in their households, communities, and public life. Through leadership training, mentorship, and advocacy campaigns, we support women to claim their rights, influence decisions, and mentor the next generation.
What makes our approach different
We don’t run one-off workshops. Our women’s empowerment model is built on sustained support — from skills training to mentorship to market access — so that women don’t just learn, they earn and lead.
Every program is designed with women at the centre. We listen to what women need, we build around their realities (childcare, safety, mobility), and we create environments where they can grow with confidence.
