Preparing the next generation for a digital and connected world

Education Changes Everything

For thousands of children and young people in Uganda — especially those in refugee communities — education is not guaranteed. Overcrowded schools, lack of supplies, economic pressure to drop out, and limited access to technology mean that many young people are being left behind at the very moment when the world is moving forward.
SHFA’s Education & Digital Opportunity program opens doors. We support children to stay in school, give youth access to technology and vocational skills, and build the mentorship networks that help young people navigate their futures with confidence.
We believe that every child and every young person deserves the chance to learn, to grow, and to connect with the opportunities of a digital world.

How we create educational opportunity

Scholarships & School Support

We provide scholarships, school fees, uniforms, and learning materials to children and young people who would otherwise drop out. We prioritise girls, refugee children, and orphans — those most at risk of being excluded from education. We also work with schools to improve learning environments and teacher capacity.

Digital Learning Hubs

We establish community-based digital learning centres equipped with computers, tablets, and internet access. These hubs serve as safe, structured environments where children and youth can learn digital literacy, complete schoolwork, access online educational resources, and develop 21st-century skills.

CT & Vocational Training

For older youth, we offer practical training in information and communication technology (ICT), including computer skills, coding basics, graphic design, data entry, and digital marketing. We also provide vocational skills training tailored to local market needs — giving young people real pathways to employment and entrepreneurship.

Mentorship & Life Skills

Education is about more than academics. We connect young people with mentors who guide them through career planning, personal development, and leadership. Our life skills programs cover communication, financial literacy, critical thinking, and emotional wellbeing — building confident, capable young adults.

Bridging the digital divide

The digital divide is one of the defining inequalities of our time. Young people in refugee settlements and rural communities are growing up disconnected from the tools, platforms, and opportunities that are shaping the global economy.
Our digital learning hubs and ICT training programs are designed to bridge this gap — not just by giving young people access to devices, but by building the skills and confidence they need to use technology meaningfully, whether for education, employment, entrepreneurship, or civic participation.
